CLOSING DOWN SALE
ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST ? !!!
A few years from now people will be saying amongst themselves, “ What did we used to call those places where we could find the books we didn't know we were looking for ? ”.
No-one can have failed to notice the drastically reduced presence of Secondhand/Antiquarian Bookshops on our High Streets over the last ten years. Decimated is probably an underestimate. Traditionally most have carried a massive stock so that millions of titles which do not occur on the databases of new-book retailing chains have been readily available to the browsing public. The escalating overheads involved in housing this volume of stock is the principal cause of inability to continue. Most traditional bookshops have been run by enthusiasts who themselves have a passion for books and a delight in helping others to find the books they want. The advancing demise of the traditional secondhand bookshop is a cultural heritage disaster of cataclysmic proportions
After 12 years trading Bardsley's Books of 22 Upper Olland Street in Bungay, Suffolk, with heartfelt regret, is closing down its retail shop premises.
We have tens of thousands of books to dispose of, and, to encourage our customers to help us to find good homes for them quickly, we are offering a sliding scale discount scheme on our secondhand/antiquarian stock.
All customers will receive a 10% discount. Spend over £50 and the discount rises to 20%. Over £250 spend will be reduced by 30%. Our maximum discount of 40% goes to those customers who spend over £1000. Bona fide trade customers will be allowed an additional 10%.
We specialize in Theology, Film, and Fantasy/Science Fiction. We are strong in English Literature, Literary Criticism, Folio Society Editions, History, Biography, Art and East Anglian Local History.
We have significant stock in Natural History, Cookery, Needlecraft, Gardening, Motoring, Sailing, Music, Cricket, British & Foreign Topography, and Children's Fiction.
In our store we maintain Single Author Boxes of modern popular paperback fiction – so if you have wants lists you are trying to fill for particular authors it would be a good idea to ring us a day or two before your visit so that we can be sure to have the appropriate Author Boxes in the shop when you arrive.
It doesn't have to end like this. You have the power to turn our closing down sale into a rescue package. You have the power to make an informed choice, to ensure that the disappearance of traditional secondhand bookshops from our High Streets is halted. Use your independent booksellers - or you will loose them.
We would like to thank all our customers who have supported us over the last 12 years and all of you who feel moved to help us now.
Antony & Delia Bardsley
